Our Mission
Volunteer Maryland builds stronger, healthier
communities by developing volunteer programs that
meet critical needs in the areas of
education, human
needs, public safety, homeland security, and the
environment.
In partnership with the Governor's Office and the
Corporation for National and Community
Service, VM
offers one-year partnerships with nonprofits to
strengthen volunteer recruitment and management
systems and mobilize community volunteers across
Maryland.

It is a pleasure to kick off 2007, the
15th anniversary of Volunteer Maryland's
launch. In 1992, Governor William Donald
Schaefer established our program to help
citizens tackle Maryland's critical
human and environmental problems.
In this edition of VMail, you'll
find a glimpse of our program results since
that time along with a spotlight on one
current Volunteer Maryland
partner and AmeriCorps member. Enjoy!

Recruiting Boomer Volunteers
|
|
Several months ago, VMail included an article
on the Baby Boom generation reaching
retirement age and its implications for the
field of volunteer management. Understanding
that the work styles, motivations, and
expectations of this dynamic group of
Americans are considerably different than the
previous generation, volunteer mangers are
sure to face challenges in retooling their
volunteer programs to appeal to this group.
In this issue, we wanted to point you in the
direction of a number of resources, all
available for free online, that may help your
organization to attract volunteers of this
age group.
